Almost Christmas
Written by bloodytom

Through the years that I've lived here in the city, I noticed how people already set up the Christmas decors as early as September. It's just the same in the provinces, but here in the city the decors are always a little too showy. Those tiny light bulbs seem to envelope a house just so the owners can express how Christmas-y they are. In the street where I live, the houses always seem to be competing for most extravagant Christmas decor of all times. The only house left always dark is our house. If you are not from around here and you start walking from the start of our street, you'd feel the warmth of the holidays as you pass by each house. But by the 27th house, it'd still feel like Halloween is just coming tomorrow. Or at least that was how it was last year and the previous years. Because this Christmas it seems that our house is the only one with the decors and stuff.

I'm not really surprised to notice that the people here are not decorating their houses with those tiny twinkling light bulbs anymore. The cost of electricity has doubled since last year. But being always the opposite, our house is the only one decorated with those lights. And the Nativity scene. That's right. There's a Nativity scene in front of our house just outside the gate. Of course we did not set it up. I just woke up one morning and our councilor is hammering nails on woods and next thing I know there's a bunch of handcrafted figures of the 3 kings, Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus with a couple of angels and some barn animals placed inside the small hut that he was building. By nightfall a long line of twinkling lights was wrapped randomly over the figures and the hut itself. There were also some hays and plants.

Now if you'd pass by our house and you don't know it's December, you'd probably think that we're a bunch of weirdos who put Christmas decors in the middle of the year. Nevertheless, we're enjoying the lights and the "new look" that our Halloween house just got. Here's a picture of me in a very unattractive pose in front of our decor.

And another picture:

Another shot without the flash. It looks like glowing insects are flying strategically over the makeshift hut.
