My dad is in town to have a meeting with someone whom he had business with. We went to Philamlife in UN Avenue. He also said we were going on a concert of some sort. I expected an hour or so of people singing and nothing more. But it was one of the most surprising events that I went to.
The concert was called "Crossing Borders through Beethoven's Ninth". It featured musicians from Andrews University in Michigan, USA and the Adventist University of the Philippines in Silang, Cavite. A full orchestra and choir performed led by Maestro Claudio Gonzáles and choirmaster Ramon Lijauco Jr.
The night began with an orchestraic rendition of the National Anthem. Then started a short narrative of Ludwig van Beethoven's life of musical masterpieces amidst the lifetime of suffering and trials. The first piece, Choral Fantasy in C minor started with the adagio. The Indonesian piano soloist Herbert Yonathan performed flawlessly and marvelously and my arm hairs were standing on its ends throughout the performance. The music from the orchestra was mesmerizing and it was so great listening both with eyes closed, as I seemed to be suspended between the clouds and the earth, and with eyes open as I could not believe my eyes that I was actually watching an orchestra play. The second piece, Symphony No. 9 in D minor was even more enthralling as the different moods of music seemed to have taken over the crowd. The haunting voices from the soloists game me another set of goosebumps and the unflawed playing of the orchestra collided with me with every note that they hit.
It was a very wonderful evening for me and I actually wished that my friends and my buddy were there to listen to the music because it was very beautiful. I actually wanted to attend another performance like this in the future. Too bad I was not able to bring my camera, because it was stolen. I recorded the performance by audio, though, it's not in very good quality. My cell phone only records in 64 kbps, which is kinda sucky. But anyway, I will not forget that night's performance.
